Liberty Academy Trust Wins National SEND Excellence Award 2026

We are proud to share that Liberty Academy Trust has been named winner of the SEND Excellence Award 2026 at the nEdEx Trust and School Leadership Awards - a prestigious national award recognising outstanding provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

This was a highly competitive category and the judging panel highlighted the significant progress achieved across our Trust; Despite 71% of our pupils arriving below age-related expectations with complex educational histories, 100% of our Key Stage 4 leavers achieved at least one GCSE in 2025. In addition, suspensions have nearly halved, and we have maintained a 0% NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) rate for the second consecutive year.

These outcomes reflect the collective dedication, expertise and care demonstrated every day by colleagues across our three schools: Church Lawton School, Thames Valley School and Vanguard School.

Commenting on the award, our CEO said:
“This award means a great deal to everyone across Liberty Academy Trust. We exist to provide the very best education and support for autistic young people, and to have that work recognised at a national level is incredibly affirming. It is a testament to the dedication of every member of staff across our three schools, who give so much every day to ensure our pupils can thrive.

Across all of our settings, we work tirelessly to create environments where pupils feel understood, safe and able to flourish. This recognition reflects both the strength of our provision and our shared commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive education.”

We would like to thank all of our staff for their continued passion and dedication. This is a significant achievement for our entire Trust community, and one we are incredibly proud to celebrate.
